2   JOHN 3:1-2

  • Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews.
  • Member of Sanhedrin
  • Jewish ruling council, had 70 members responsible for religious decisions under the Roman rulership.
  • Nicodemus was afraid or ashamed of being seen with Jesus.
  • Acts 10:38

You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

3   JOHN 3:3

  • Jesus begins to explain how you enter the Kingdom
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

4   JOHN 3:4-8

  • Nicodemus was perplexed on how the New Birth would work.
  • 1 Thes. 5:23

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Romans 12:2

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

  • 1 Cor. 6:19

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

5   JOHN 3:9-15

  • Hard questions are not always an attack but someone desiring to really know the truth.
  • Colossians 3:2

Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

  • Jesus also talks about returning to Heaven by the way of the Cross “lifted up” like the serpent Moses lifted up to bring healing. (Reference Numbers 21)

6   JOHN 3:16-21

  • God’s love for the world does not mean He approves the way the world is going.
  • God desires all to be saved, we are given a choice to accept or decline the Gospel.
  • Love is not all about accepting, but about sharing truth.
  • God’s love is a Holy love.
  • God sent His Son, the Way the Truth, and the Life to the world.
