Background

  • Jesus feeds the 5,000 men and in the previous chapter, He healed someone on the Sabbath.

John 6:14-15: Seeking Him

  • Because of the signs, He performed they perceived Him as a Prophet.
    • Deuteronomy 18:15-20
      • Verses 15/18 point to this part in John.
      • Rules for a Prophet.
  • Jesus then could tell the people were planning to come to take Him by force, so He fled to a mountain and was alone.
    • We see several times in the Gospels that Jesus spent time alone.
    • WE MUST DO THE SAME WHEN SEEKING!
    • Matthew 6:6
    • James 4:8

John 6:16-21: The Storm

  • Separation from Jesus puts us in darkness.
  • They were going 6-7 miles to the NW side of Capernaum from east shore.
  • Jesus appears halfway through the storm (3-4 miles)
  • Psalms 107:23-32
  • The boat immediately reached the shore when they received Him.
  • Have you truly received Him in your storm, or is He waiting on you?
  • Matthew 14:27

John 6:22-29: The Bread of Life

  • Jews realized Jesus was gone, they go to another side of the lake to find Him.
  • They seek Him because of temporary things (bread/fish).
  • People misunderstood what the work of God is.
  • The work of God is faith in Jesus.
  • Fill yourself with the Word of God (Jesus Christ == LOGOS John 1:1) and you will never be hungry.
