John 8:1-6

  • Mount of Olives = mountain ridge east and adjacent to Jerusalem. Across the Kidron Valley
  • Early morning worship
  • 1 Samuel 1:19 The entire family got up early the next morning and went to worship the Lord once more. Then they returned home to Ramah. When Elkanah slept with Hannah, the Lord remembered her plea,
  • 2 Chronicles 29:20 Early the next morning King Hezekiah gathered the city officials and went to the Temple of the Lord.
  • Job 1:5 When these celebrations ended—sometimes after several days—Job would purify his children. He would get up early in the morning and offer a burnt offering for each of them. For Job said to himself, “Perhaps my children have sinned and have cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular practice.
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,
  • Woman caught in act of adultery.
  • Leviticus 20:10 If a man commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, both the man and the woman who have committed adultery must be put to death.
  • Deuteronomy 22:22 If a man is discovered committing adultery, both he and the woman must die. In this way, you will purge Israel of such evil.

John 8:7-11

  • 27 “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’[a] 28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

  • For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride[a] to one husband—Christ.

  • As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.

  • Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds[a] so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.

  • But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
  • Sin no more
  • Romans 6:12
  • Do not let sin control the way you live;[a] do not give in to sinful desires.

John 8:12

  • Jesus is light of world.
  • John 3:19
  • And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.
