- The pool of Bethesda often called house of mercy.

- An infirmed man who could not walk at the age of 38 years caught Jesus’ eye.
- Verse 5: Word infirmity means paralyzed or lame in the original Greek.
- Jesus asks him if he wants to be made well.
- The man had no help to get in the pool, this shows the man had much doubt.
- Jesus tells him to get up and walk, and then the man was healed.
- This happened on the Sabbath.
- Food for thought: What about all the other people at the pool who were sick?

- The Jews begin persecuting Jesus for healing on the Sabbath because it contradicted with OT Law.
- Exodus 20:10 — Not to work on the Sabbath
- Exodus 20:11 — God rested from creation, not being God.
- The man realized it was Jesus who healed him and informs the Jews.
- The Jews begin persecuting Jesus for healing on the Sabbath because it contradicted with OT Law.
- John 5:16-18
- Jews persecute Jesus for two charges:
- Working on Sabbath
- Claiming God is His Father
- Jews persecute Jesus for two charges:
- John 5:19-23
- Jesus does the will of the Father.
- Jesus will perform even greater works.
- This is talking about Salvation/New Birth.
- 3 Functions of Jesus:

- Everlasting life is obtained by believing in the Son and hears His Word.
