This video was brought to my attention a few weeks ago and I was so grieved over this. Hillsong has a big name, and a big influence, especially on young people. The issue with Hillsong goes far beyond the latest scandal with the one pastor’s affair. Simply look at this video and you will see one of the Hillsong locations church performing a Buddhist or Hindu dance for their Christmas service, let alone incorporate a secular song that has nothing to do with God.
What has the church come to in America and across the world? What has happened to true Biblical Christianity? Many simply just go with the flow of what is popular. Many will simply believe that if it is labeled Christian music then it must line up with the Bible. Many believe that if you purchase it from a Christian bookstore that it is safe to read.
We have such a lack of discernment in the church today, and it is absolutely appalling. 1 John 4:1 (ESV) tells us, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”. The problem in the church today is many simply believe every spirit and do not give more than two seconds to test the spirits according to how the Bible commands us to.
Many of the false prophets today might look like they preach some truth, and that is exactly how Satan operates. Satan will mix in just barely enough truth to get people to be deceived and believe in a false gospel. 2 Corinthians 11:14 (CSB) tells us, “And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”.
It is time for Christians to abandon Hillsong completely, and that might sound a bit extreme. But what happened to Nadab and Abihu in Leviticus 10, when they brought unauthorized fire to the altar of the Lord? God killed them with unquenchable fire because they knowingly went against what God had already commanded in Exodus 30:9. God takes worship very seriously, and we really need to understand that today. There are many altars in America that are doing many things that God has not authorized. We need to get back to what Scripture says and stop going with the flow of cultural trends.
More importantly, we need to pray for the leadership of Hillsong for them to be saved from the deception they are in along with their church members. It is so critical for every believer to be filled with the Holy Spirit and be frequently in the Word of God so that we can walk in the Truth.
